Flawless Battle-Stones, Livid Warlock and Starting Fresh

cimYeah really. How bad is that. That’s Ironsally’s twin sister, she’s got talents but that’s about all she’s got. She certainly has no sense of style … what … oh, she says I HAVE NO SENSE OF STYLE. She’s really mad, I don’t know why it’s so fun to do this to a Warlock, I mean I love Warlocks but something twisted in me always gets a thrill out of making her wear outlandish outfits. But come on, you’re leveling, it happens. BUT AN UMBRELLA! By all that’s unholy would you for pete’s sake get me a staff or something! RIGHT NOW! She didn’t really say for pete’s sake but I’m trying to edit for PG13.

Okay, enough with the harassment of Warlocks, I really should stop as it’s dangerous.

The other day I put some of the hundreds of stupid glyphs my Scribe made leveling up on the AH. Just for something to do because they are pretty much worthless on my server, I have NEVER been able to make any money on these things yet I’m hanging on to them because it just seems wrong to vendor all her hard work.

I can’t remember which glyph it was but it was posted at 20 gold with a buyout of 25 gold. When I next checked there was a bid on it. HOLY FLIPPING ELUNE! I was stunned, there are people to who the difference of 5 gold is an issue? It’s been so long that I had forgotten. So I canceled the auction and sent them one for free and got to feel all holiday-spirited, so now I think I’ll list those worthless things at really low prices because there are people starting fresh, yay, a use for those bag wasters! It brought back the memories of my Hunter at about level 24 with 4s. Really. She spent all her money buying her pets food to make them really, really, like her.

Yep. Wait for it … here it comes! Pet Battles. I’ve read about people complaining about the dearth of Flawless Battle-Stones. I felt kind of guilty because I’ve received so many I even upgraded some pets just because I liked their looks rather than stats. I wish I could say I was paying attention and could see a pattern as to why so many dropped.

Of course I pet battle a lot, but the only other thing I can think of that may have something to do with it are the teams I use. My leveling teams have a coach, Emperor Crab. A level 25 crab takes two rookies starting at level 6 or 7 who can withstand one round to the Heartland. The pets around there are pretty safe. You can usually count on a Marsh Fiddler in a group who is safe for a low level. I just make sure the lowbies don’t go against a pet with a poison attack or a turtle with grasp.

Admittedly it’s pretty boring slogging through three pets with my tanky crab but it’s my unscientific conclusion as to why so many Flawless Battle-Stones have dropped. I have many crabs, so many teams with low levels so I can go through them and before you know it the eight minute cooldown is done. Don’t have to waste bandages.

So there you go. My totally unscientific theory on my high drop rate, it’s probably complete bunk but hey, you never know!

  1. Why do I feel like giving your warlock a bowl of soup, cup of coffee, and a Salvation Army hug? Maybe she’s like one of those eccentric, wealthy heiresses who hoards battle stones and no one in society is the wiser. Oh, sh*t! Don’t tell her I said that! She’ll do something evil! Here’s a bowl of soup nice lady…don’t hurt me!

    • I know! She looks like she may have a bedroll tucked away somewhere and is sleeping under the boardwalk at the Faire, lol. I only torment my Human Warlocks though, my Forsaken has already been through a lot so she gets a pass.

  2. I also feel guilty because I have had 5 battle stones, and 3 were really good ones (dragon, undead and magic) and I still am sitting here with 2 critters not knowing what to upgrade but maybe I’ll do what you did and just upgrade the ones I think look pretty. That’s so much easier than being all scientific and studious about it. Which means I should do my pig or an egbert…

  3. Huh, I might have to try that. So far I’ve only gotten one, and I am holding onto it for dear life. LOL! I swear I will upgrade one of my humanoids with it someday … I just can’t decide whether to upgrade one of my captured pets, or use it on my wolvar or oracle hatchling since I can always keep trying to capture a rare but they will never change unless I use a stone.

    • Leveling this way is not as exciting but they do go up to level 20 or so pretty fast. I know, my first stone I agonized forever over who to upgrade and I only upgraded things I couldn’t capture too.

I bent the rules for the Crow though, because I couldn’t wait to level one up.

  4. Off to get my warlock that rather stylish umbrella!

  5. “She’s really mad, I don’t know why it’s so fun to do this to a Warlock, I mean I love Warlocks but something twisted in me always gets a thrill out of making her wear outlandish outfits. ”

Heheheh, I do the same thing to my Death Knight. She always protests at first about being put into some kind of brightly coloured, rather garish outfit for this or that holiday, but in the end, she always submits with a resigned sigh.

  6. Scorpions are my preferred pets for playing the role of the big bad 25 to help two lowbies level – their Rampage ability chews through the fiddlers and bandicoons of the Vot4W like a chainsaw through butter. Almost as reliable as a crab, but much faster. Most of the pets I’m leveling right now are the rares I’ve captured in Pandaria, though, so usually two of them can handle the three wilds on their own, so I don’t waste any XP on the 25.

    • I’ve got a level 25 scorpion, I’ll have to try him out. I don’t think I’ve used him since I leveled him. I sure would’nt mind speeding up the fights. The crab is dependable but slow going!

  7. As much fun as tormenting your Warlock sounds, mine is a gnome…and she’s just too cute to mess with! (plus, her being so small makes it hard to really see what her gear looks like anyways) But, I do have a male Dranaei DK I could have fun with.

For pet battle leveling I was using a humanoid (Gregarious Grell) and my location of choice is up at the BMAH. There are a lot of critters (and only critters, so you know what you’re always up against) up there to battle and a stable master close by. I had heard how good crabs are so I switched out my Grell for my Emperor Crab and the fights are over in a heartbeat. My crab has high power and pretty much two-shots what he fights (three-shots for a rare opponent). It is a great place for leveling. Sad thing is, I have done a LOT of battles up there and have only gotten two Flawless Critter Stones. :o(

    • Yes, sounds like the Death Knight would be more fun to torture than a cute little Gnome.

I’ll have to try leveling around the BMAH, be nice to have a new location and it’s pretty up there. I really think getting the stones goes in streaks for me, after getting a bunch I’m now on a dry stretch. I guess RNG read this post and decided to put me back in my place, lol!

  8. I haven’t gotten a battlestone yet, but I’m relatively unfamiliar with their acquisition.

Yesterday and today involved some pet battling. After 350+ battles and only 18 rares, I snared 5 in less than 20 fights. Bizarro World for sure.

    • Sometimes I’ll go what seems like days without seeing a rare and sometimes for a stretch there will be one in each group. I always have to stop and see if this rare is better than the one I have, lol.

Battle-Stones are great, just cause a lot of angst over picking just the right pet to upgrade!

  9. I’ve still only seen the one flawless class stone and one generic so far. I usually use the flayer hatchling as my consistent pet with two levelling pets. I don’t think I could leave my toons in weird costumes (unless they are levelling) but I sometimes look at my very first toons (who I haven’t touched for years) and feel a bit sorry for their mismatched states.

    • Luckily Cat’s in kitty form most of the time so you can’t see her horrible outfit. I did transmog her weapon though as I thought it was hideous.

I’ve lost count on the stones. I had a great streak of good luck and now they’ve kind dryed up. I think about the last 3 or 4 were all critters.
