And the Winner is …

Posted in Transmogrification with tags , , , on April 23, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

Yesterday I kept waiting for the results of the final round of Mog Madness to be posted. I hung out at the pet shop in Dalaran for a while and then did a tour of Stormwind, killing time. I had an idea of who the top three were, but wanted to find out the winner with everyone else, so I didn’t cheat and tally the scores. But that Simon Cowell of Azeroth out waited me, so I didn’t find out until this morning!

Congratulation to all the competitors. They did an incredible amount of hard work over the weeks, while we got to enjoy viewing their efforts every weekend. I have an idea how hard this was because over at the Harpy’s Nest Erinys has a post about Saga’s Worst Warlock Competition. I tried to while away the time waiting for the Mog Madness results by dressing my Warlock in hideous (to her) outfits and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be and all I ended up with was a Warlock that’s not speaking to me.

Big congratulations to the winner, your outfit really scared the bejeezus out of me! I feel a little sad this morning. I’ve opened all the packages and now all that’s left is the cleanup. I’ll get over it. I’m almost positive JD has something else up his sleeve, but while I wait to see what that might be I think I’ll go torment my Warlock some more.

Thank you JD, Effy, and all the competitors for a wonderful and exciting five weeks of mogging goodness!

Mog Madness: Round Four Results, Final Round Rules

Posted in Transmogrification with tags , , , on April 15, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

Round four results are up at Amateur Azerothian, the field of competitors has been narrowed to five survivors for the final round. It appears to me that the rules for Mog Madness are becoming progressively more evil, that Simon Cowell of Azeroth has quite a challenge in mind for the final round, just check out the Final Round Rules!

Below are the rules for the fifth and final round.

Mog Madnesss Final Round:

Mog Madness Finals:

  • When: April16th – April 20th (judging results revealed April 22nd)
  • Who: Missescake, Cymre, Reluctant Raider, Kamalia, Tolbi.
  • How: Send an e-mail with your screenshot(s) to or post your entry on the Mog Madness page of Amateur Azerothian, Tome of the Ancient, or Effraeti’s RP.
  • Mog Requirement: For the finals, contestants must create an “Anti-Paladin of the Old God.”  To elaborate, your outfit can include anything for a Paladin or Death Knight.  You must also choose whether your entry is an Anti-Paladin for C’thun or for Yogg-Saron (Judge’s tip…avoid looking anything like Twilight Cultists).

Good luck to you all!

Well yeah, give me a minute. I really wanted to use this screen shot because really, I’m just looking to sight see in the beta and this is … I know! Blizzard transmogging Pandaria! See, it does fit!

But what you really want to know is who is going to move on to Round Four of Mog Madness! Thanks to all the competitors, round three was the toughest round yet. Just head over to Judge JD’s post to find out who will continue on to Round Four of Mag Madness!

You can find Round Four Rules here, and good luck!

Mog Madness: Round Two Results, Third Round Rules

Posted in Transmogrification with tags , , , on April 1, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

The Mog Madness Round Two results are in at Amateur Azerothian. The outfits were spectacular, many thanks to all who participated and the best of luck to those continuing on to round three! What’s in store for you next?

Mog Madness Round Three:

  • When: April 2nd – 6th (judging results revealed April 8th)
  • Who: Our Final 15.
  • How: Send an e-mail with your screenshot(s) to or post your entry here, Effy’s RP, or Tome of the Ancient.
  • Mog Requirement: Remember that post from yesterday?  As I’ve submitted a “what I would have entered” each round, this round is no different as that picture contains the requirement for Round Three.  Yes, unfortunately we’re asking you to get Mail creative again as you set out to build around: The Wavemender’s Mantle

I’m honestly afraid to look at the entries on Friday because of how the contestants raised the bar this round.  But, I’m excited to see what comes of it at the same time as when we get together again next week we’ll be down to the top ten!  Good luck once again everyone, and just like previous rounds feel free to use programs like MogIt, wowhead, and WoWModelViewer to submit your entries.

Hello? Hello? Druid … are you there?

Posted in General WoW with tags , , , on March 29, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

Oohhhh! That explains it! I’m a little busy so I hoped my Druid would agree to say a few words today, but I can see she’s on the last book of the Hunger Games Trilogy too. I’m only here because the iPad’s power was down to 9% so I stopped to charge it and save the end of the book for lunch.

I’m busy in real life because once again, I felt sorry for someone and tried to help and now I’m in a time consuming predicament, I never learn. “No good deed goes unpunished.” I think that’s how it goes. All my life I’ve heard this silly stuff and thought, psshaw, stupid sayings, stupid old wives’ tales. OMG! They’re all true! My apologies, old wives.

I wanted to say at least something before I lock the doors and hunker down with the other judges over all the Mog Madness entries for round two. So far it’s looking like this is going to be a battle of epic proportions. Entrants from the different districts … sorry, sorry, got mixed up there with the Hunger Games for a minute. Mog Madness will NOT be a fight to the death. Thank goodness … whew.

Yes, like I said, I don’t ever learn. That whole crotch grabbing post got me a lot of this kind of spam, this is the only one that was polite enough to show though. And now WordPress is acting up again.  Every time I do a link it adds an extra http:// to the end, rendering it useless. Are they doing this just to see if I’m paying attention?

And while I’m here. Blizzard, I know we ask a lot of you. I know you’re pretty busy. Can’t you just hire a temp or something to go in and reduce the amount of cloth, metal, etc. required to make things in the BC and Wrath range. It is agony. A character now races so fast through those expansions that collecting the required amount of supplies is impossible. Sure, my Alliance characters are rich and just bought the stuff, but my Undead is having trouble. So yeah, could you get someone on that, because I enjoy professions but this is really sucking the fun out of them.

So Mog Madness contestants, here, have a seat in the green room while you wait to see who moves on to the next round … what … oh sorry, how embarrassing, sorry. Yes, I agree, he’s taking up more than one spot. Don’t worry, I’ll ask him sit up and make room. And yes, I am that ridiculous. I did buy a leather couch for the green room and then had to cover it with that unsightly thing because … HELLO! … dog nails!

Mog Madness: Round One Results, Second Round Rules

Posted in Transmogrification with tags , , , on March 25, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

JD of Amateur Azerothian otherwise known as Simon Cowell of Azeroth, tirelessly worked through Saturday tabulating the voting and the results of the first round of voting are in! Head over to JD’s post to see all the outfits in their transmoggy glory. Competition was incredibly close and I couldn’t wait to see who made it to the second round, because me do math … no way.

Below are the rules for Round Two.

Mog Madnesss Round Two:

  • When: March 26th – March 30th (judging results revealed April 01st)
  • Who: Our remaining 20 participants.
  • How: Send an e-mail with your screenshot(s) to or post your entry on the Round Two Mog Madness page of Amateur Azerothian, Tome of the Ancients, or Effraeti’s RP.
  • Mog Requirement: The first round we gave Priests, Warlocks, and Mages our love.  Now, we’re moving on to the wild.  The classes are limited to either a Hunter or a Druid and your outfit must be based on using either  Marrowstrike or Glaive of the Pit (same skin).

Once again we’re tossing a small curveball into the voting process for the second round.  In a slight “Survivor” spin on things we’re going to ask the eliminated six people to each provide a top 5 vote and we’ll combine those scores to determine who gets a free trip past our judging and into the third round!

Also, your screenshots are not obligated to be in-game.  You can use programs like MogIt, ModelViewer, or websites like wowhead or transmogger in order to capture a picture of your outfit.

Who’s Minding the Store

Oh hi … she’s not here. So me and my man Jeral thought we’d kinda help her out, if you had any questions or anything. Does she know? Well … no … but why would she mind, we’re helping. She’s getting all stressed out over judging Mog Madness. Muttering about the incredible weight, the responsibility of being a judge. Then something that sounds like … I don’t know … yoda or yodawg, whatever. Some kind of real world creature she has to battle I guess? I don’t know, you’d know more about that stuff than me.

Anyway, she’ll be back. And really, you don’t want to be around her right now, such a drama queen.

“Oh, it’s so hard. They are ALL so wonderful. Oh, the weight of mog responsibility is crushing me, crushing me!”

Yeah, see what I mean? So anyway, can I get you a drink while you wait? I thought it’d be nice to have an open bar while she’s gone. Just so we’d all have something to do until she gets back. I’m sure she won’t mind. Jeral says it’s no problem to run a tab for her. So, what can I get you? They just brought in a keg of Plugger’s Blackrock Ale, stuff’s hard to get. Let’s tap that and get the party started! Before … you know … she comes back.

Let the Mog Madness Begin!

Posted in Transmogrification with tags , , , on March 12, 2012 by tomeoftheancient

Those veterans of transmogrification, outfit preparers extraordinaire, JD of Amateur Azerothian and Effraeti of Effraeti’s RP have come up with a competition for you extreme transmoggers of Azeroth! They are kindly allowing me to participate in the role of Randy Jackson because while I can’t transmog my way out of a paper bag I CAN enthusiastically yell “YO DAWG” in encouragement (and Randy’s my favorite), so let the games begin!

Below are the rules from Amateur Azerothian’s contest post. If you have questions I will gladly direct them to a senior high level transmogrification coordinator!

  • Mog Madness will consist of five rounds.
  • The first round will be two weeks, with the remaining four rounds one week each.
  • There will be a “Mog build” criteria for each round that will be announced at the start of each round.
  • Each participant is allowed one entry per round.
  • Your submission can be an in-game screenshot, or a shot from a program such as MogIt.
  • The judges will look at overall thoughts, creativity, and originality to give each entry a score, and the top scores will move on each round until the finals.
  • The number of participants to advance will be announced after the deadline for the first round, at which point we’ll know how many people we have taking part.

Mog Madness Round One:

  • When: March 12th – March 23rd (judging results revealed March 25th)
  • Who: Open to anyone who wishes to enter.
  • How: Send an e-mail with your screenshot(s) to or post your entry on the Mog Madness page of Amateur Azerothian, Tome of the Ancients, or Effraeti’s RP.
  • Mog Requirement: The first round of Mog Madness merely requires a cloth outfit.  That means Mages, Warlocks, and Priests are all open season for your submissions (though no using class-specific gear outside of the class you choose to use -so no Mages in something like this).

There are the rules.  Pretty straight forward, and pretty exciting too!  The only other detail to note in the first round is the “Judge’s Choice.”  For the first round only, each judge can use their power to give someone a pass into the second round.  Those lucky persons will be exempt from the voting process and move on no questions asked…though each judge will give a brief snippet explaining why they chose the entry they did.

There you have it.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.  Otherwise, regardless of your level of transmogrification we welcome you with open arms and outfits.  Good luck to all and let the Madness begin!
